Dance (All Night, London), 2017

Three-channel video installation, aspect ratio 16:9, 33 min 15 sec, HD, double stereo

Dance (All Night, London) is a collective dance performance and a three channel video. It is made in collaboration with ten dance schools from around London’s East End, each representing a different style of movement, from Cuban Rueda to Chinese Dance and Argentine Tango. It functions both as a one-night live event and as an installation in galleries-based settings. It is the second in the Dance (All Night) series, following on from one made in Paris in 2012.

On the night, dancers paraded through the streets of East London, coming together in Exchange Square, Broadgate where they danced alongside each other. From 10pm to 1am, the square, illuminated and transformed into a temporary stage, was taken over by teachers from each school offering dance lessons to the public in their chosen styles. The project encouraged audiences to come and dance in the square, to experience these vibrant rhythms and learn something new.

When the lessons concluded the space became an open dance floor until the early hours of the morning, with playlists and headphones available via silent disco.
